More than a nick it looks like he took a chunk directly,
damn
/u/n4th4nV0x
His lip probably just burst apart without the muscle
tension.

Must have bled like a bitch
/u/Rightful_Regret_6969
That would need a stitch. Right ?
/u/PolloePatateAlForno
100%, I would think that without a stitch or two it
would leave a crater there permanently
/u/guess_33
It will fill in, but there's going to be a patch/scar
there. I've lost 2 fingertips to slicers and they both
healed that way.

Lips scar easily and are really hard to align perfectly
when stitching back together. There's nothing to align
together in this scenario. It just needs to scab over
and fill in. Trying to pull the skin together would
probably create a worse looking scar than just letting
it heal.
/u/jimmy_robert
It felt so good, you tried it a second time?
/u/guess_33
I was just building a knives tolerance in my fingers.
Kind of like Rasputin to cyanide.
/u/jimmy_robert
Time to test if it worked!

/u/TheResuscitologist
No, itll heal up on its own we dont stitch unless it
crosses the Vermillion border (border where lip meets
face)
/u/thestrong45playz
I hope it didn't itch
/u/AirborneErinys
He nicked him the same way Oswald nicked Kennedy.
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Literally. Client jerked back and to the left. Back and
to the left.
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Yeah the barber must have used the word "nick" to
downplay it. A Nick is a small scrape or cut. This is a
full removal of a half inch of his lip. He must have
been trying to trim a stray hair with a downward angle
of the scissors and didn't see his lip would fall inside
the cutting area. Absolute disgrace of a barber. Either
arrogant, lazy, negligent, or all three. This might have
needed stitched. I can tell by looking at it no styptic
powder was applied(would have been unbearable) but that
also means all he got was the ol paper towel treatment.
Pat it til it stops bleeding. SMH.
/u/thatselverguy
I mean, from what I can see, it already has a spare
layer of skin underneath
/u/quitalicious
He needed to reattached the chunk of his lip that got
cut off. They reattach fingers, this could've probably
been just washed and taped back on.
/u/HastaNadaBueno
😂😂 point being, part of his lip definitely fell
off and that DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH A NICK.
/u/ScreamSmart
The barber just licks it and pastes it back on.
/u/MissInfer
Gives it a little slap like a dad who strapped something
down, confidently saying "that's not going anywhere".
/u/Sethlans
Nah there's no tissue missing here, it's a clean cut
that has just pulled apart because of tension.

Would heal well if the edges are brought together.
/u/Miracle_0001
now this is what i will think everytime i go get a cut
/u/Extraordi-Mary
https://giphy.com/gifs/JiSL3YrrKUZBV1nIRa

How he's going next time
/u/CBsJoant
That barber could be my husband or wife, I'd still
change barbers. If they have the gall to ask why, simply
say "Personal safety" and leave it at that.
/u/StrangerEither
Why would you even tell them? Just go somewhere else
/u/Striking-Working610
Bro acting like the barber will be texting him like "hey
its been over 2 months where those split ends at?"
/u/ChipmunkLoud4916
I went to the same barber for 10 years and if I didn't
make an appt for over a month he would call / text and
check on me
/u/hulagway
This is me and my dad. He took a good 5-10% of my ear.
Never cut my hair ever again.
/u/Odd-Row9485
It's where you get your haircut you don't have to
explain yourself you just have to move on with life and
never go back
/u/casris
That's not a nick, that's a biopsy!
/u/etherseaminus
That's not a nick, it's a nicholas
/u/PullFromTheHurt
https://giphy.com/gifs/RrVzUOXldFe8M
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Brooo! Ima barber and this is insane. Use the damn
trimmers. Never return to this barber. Ever.
/u/Wildtails
With the scissors even not a straight razor, at least
there could be some mild excuse with how quickly a nick
can turn into a cut, ive never cut a client like that
🙃
/u/SimUnit
I've never cut a client like that either! I am an
accountant, however.
/u/inblo
But you have cut them?
https://giphy.com/gifs/hreBKxvTTYYdaQQZKc
/u/Yssupretsif
Depends. Who's askin

https://giphy.com/gifs/l3q2YLeVxcbBpMpTq
/u/xnour202
Who's asking who's asking...
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Maybe he's cutting what they owe to the IRS in that case
he's brilliant !
/u/JonnyRobertR
Budget cut. Mentally more devastating.
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Right you can tell the barber was behind the right
shoulder using a downward angle with the scissors. If
they had been even 1/4" inward he coulda lost the whole
side of the lip.
/u/alexs9648
True, but a barber got the inside of my lip with
trimmers. I've had an ulcer in that area for like 5
months now
/u/HastaNadaBueno
Yeah it's not fool proof. Their trimmer could be offset
or they could be too firm/aggressive. I also have a
client that swears any vibration near his lips cause
upsets so he trims his mustache himself at home.

I always keep my trimmers/clippers set safe and I don't
use a lot of pressure when performing services. It
doesn't take a lot. The hair is being cut on the outside
or the skin so why press down ?? Even with straight
razor shaving, the razor is sharp enough not a lot of
pressure is needed.
/u/alexs9648
Yeah this guy was someone I'd left like a decade ago...
He found his way into my current barbers. The dude moved
the trimmers without a care, and somehow jammed it under
my lower lip. He carried on casually without an apology.
/u/HaterMD
Not to be the usual Reddit alarmist, but slow healing
mouth sores are definitely something I'd bring up to a
doctor.
/u/No_Locksmith_1739
We all know it's herpes.

The cope is strong in that one.
/u/555Cats555
Yikes... depending on how well/often he is cleaning
those scissors there could be a whole variety of
pathogen on them. I hope you dont get an infection.

Bad review would be minimum.
/u/Wildtails
Any barber worth their salt has barbicide or similar
that they stay in when not in use
/u/Crowleys_big_toe
If there's one thing i learned from piercing and tattoo
studios its that if they can fuck up one way, they
probably fuck up in most other ways too
/u/narco-sub-admiral
Right? You're either thorough in your craft or not.
/u/LevelOutlandishness1
That was my first thought, though I've never been to a
shoddy piercing/tattoo studio. "Okay but is a barber
that managed to make this kind of mistake going to be
taking the correct precautions?"
/u/555Cats555
Hopefully this barber is 'worth their salt'
/u/Kaneda-Suekichi
If they cut a client this bad I seriously doubt it
/u/stupidber
Any barber worth their salt wouldn't cut your lip off
with scissors
/u/Slow-Disaster8861
"worth their salt" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here
/u/CrazyDriver7149
Not to stick up for the shitty barber or be pedantic but
"worth his salt" isn't exactly the right term. Try
"legally required"

Everyone's so quick to jump in on the circle jerk like
oooooh he probably didn't I bet he doesn't wipe his ass
either oooooooooo

But if he went anywhere with a licensed barber 99%
chance those scissors were disinfect
/u/Revolutionary-Cry739
They don't have to stay in there, just be submerged in
the barbacide for at least 10 minutes. I disinfect mine
after every use and put them back in their case.
/u/DramaticPackage5745
Hepatitis C can survive submerged into bleach for 3
minutes.

Barbicide needs the surface to be wet a minimal of ten
minutes to accomplish the same.

I've never seen a barber or hair stylist do anything
for electric and manual scissors other than mist the
things with a spray bottle, and some -might- put other
tools into a container... But they can easily rotate the
client out for a new one within ten minutes.
/u/Ok-Personality-6630
They also don't cut someone's lip
/u/Recordbreaking_Throw
This! One of my colleagues got nicked at the barber a
few months ago and ended up getting cellulitis on his
head. Had to spend a few days in hospital on iv
antibiotics.

Keep a very close eye on it, OP, and if you even
suspect it might be infected don't delay seeing a
doctor.
/u/Icy_Dinner6064
Already looks hella swollen.
/u/Dragonssssssssssss
Looks like there's hair in the cut too! 😭
/u/Round-Medicine2507
I dont go to barbershops at all anymore. I almost never
see them clean tools between clients these days,
especially the younger generation. One barbers partner
wanted to fight me because his partner was pretending
not to speak English in order to pressure me to pay more
when i asked about the price a few times. Like dudes
youre ruining your customer base.

Brother, that is a step or two above mildly infuriating
/u/Sad-Fishing8789
Come on, just the lip
/u/OnniVic
YOWCH that is gonna be a bitch to heal, my condolences
/u/clev1
Yup and it's gonna look horrible while it heals. Like
he'll be walking around with a constant cold sore.
/u/DismalSoil9554
I split my bottom lip because I fell on my face like an
idiot (my dog tripped me up). It was swollen and split
for a while, but even after 6+ months I still have a
bumpy scar. That wound is not gonna disappear so fast.
/u/notawisehuman
He gonna hate some of the food that will cause to hurt
like hell. Then, will hate the barber more.
/u/ImTooSaxy
That's a big ass slice. Lip doesn't heal like normal
skin.
/u/kokichistan
Thankfully for this dude lips heal faster than normal
skin. This is fucked
/u/imafinhehe
I hope he gave you the cut for free or at least a good
discount. If not I would leave a nasty review.
/u/konnonyuuki
Take the free cut and leave the worst review ever seen
by humanity. And get some law's punch on his non-cutted
mouth.
/u/imafinhehe
Yeah. I was thinking that Maybe I would leave the
nastiest craziest most diabolical review ever seen by
human weather they gave it or not.

And also make the barber pay for any prescribed
ointment or something if you go to the doctor and they
say so.
/u/Low_Biscotti5539
He better had gave the cut for free. If this happened to
me I would just straight up refuse to pay
/u/Samson_J_Rivers
Holy shit. That's more than a nick man. Thats gonna be
healing for weeks. Hope you don't like salty / greasy
foods 💀

irrational... turns out it is a reasonable worry. Hope
it heals soon op
/u/TangeloThick2780

/u/circadian_light
That's not a "nick"...closer to a gash.
/u/KushySoles
Wouldn't that leave a scar/lump? He disfigured you.
/u/DismalSoil9554
It will leave a scar.
/u/MoonChild27B
https://giphy.com/gifs/hFT2AEFlah0AHFcibs

The scissor in question
/u/x-Na
Probably needs stitches?
/u/Own-Jeweler3169
That's not a nick mate, he took a chunk out, that's
borderline surgery.
/u/I_-AM-ARNAV
More than mildlyinfuriating. Just a bit of salt and boom
/u/Bordem-Industry
Damn that's a pretty hefty gash, if this is a regular
thing for the barber then he shouldn't be one
/u/NataschaTata
What the heck... that ain't going to grow back, that's
for sure
/u/Cryozenica
"Nicked" by Freddy Kruger or Edward Scissordhands?
